For Roughness places screaming at the center of a musical study on alarming signals, political urge and human (re)action. The shifting polyrhythms characterizing this composition are representing a layered reality of complex differences that constitute an almost unbearable intensity when perceived all at once.
Based on field recordings of a seemingly endless car convoi of people demonstrating against life threatening changes in the reproductive rights legisalation and safe access to abortion in Gdansk, Poland in 2020, this piece is directly adressing the basic democratic idea of gaining power through gathering. The three instrument sections, voice, strings and percussion, are first playing seperately, then finally unite in the last part in a repetition, just before two air raid sirenes take over setting an end to the hustle.
